Prenatal Yoga for 2020

This is the eve of Christmas 2019.

I am so looking forward to this year. Last year we had some lovely births from the women who attend prenatal yoga at Barkantine Practice in Isle of Dogs.

Most of the women who attend the classes start of feeling scared and apprehensive about how, where and what they would like for their birth. Through attending these weekly classes, it is so wonderful to see them blossoms into a deeper understanding and connection with their body, and their pregnancy and come to a point where they know what would work best for their labour and birth.

I have observed over the past 26 years of teaching, that, women who attend regularly, tend to go into labour on the day off their session (around their due date) or almost immediately after coming to my class.

I used to think this was weird but now I know that the body remembers, and that Wednesday nights between 6.30-8.00pm is when these women come and are listened to; enjoy the yoga practice and let go of their worries, producing oxytocin and endorphins and these hormones help the woman to let go.

I also observed that most of the women felt empowered to achieve the birth they wanted. So even thought they may have attended other birth preparation workshops, the consistency and continuity of attending a weekly prenatal yoga with a specialist like myself, teaching them Active Birth principles and Hypnobirthing visualisations and relaxations at every session helped them come to terms with change and were able to stay steady, calm and relaxed through the waves of the labour and birth.

Birthing from this place of transformation is empowering and I have seen less traumatised women than most.

That said, I have decided to stop the class at Barkantine for the time being. Last year saw a record low in number attending and I need to review why that is and how I want to move forward

I am excited to say that I am always interested with working with women and babies and if inquiry and numbers move beyond the minimum required to hire the space improve, I would be more than happy to run the sessions in a more efficient and viable way.

I will be transferring my classes to my house in Walthamstow.

Capacity is for 6 mamas to be. So if you want to join us on Monday evenings 6-7.15pm. Please drop me a line. Classes will be in blocks of 6 weeks and you need to pay ahead to guarantee your place.
