Sound Journey with Arlene Dunkley-Wood

Welcome to my blog on my journey into Sound

Sound Baths with Arlene

Hello my name is Arlene Dunkley-Wood and I have always been interested in music and sound.

I have been a member of various secular choirs and in the past 5 years, a member of British Gospel Arts Choir, and that has been a profound journey.

But in more recent years I have found myself drawn to ambient sounds and how they can evoke that sense of peace, calm and connection with deeper part of self.

I am a Yoga Teacher, Doula, Craniosacral Therapist, Counsellor and Massage Practitioner; running my various eclectic but unique business to bring healthy and well-being to local people and in particular birthing women, over the past 30 years.

For a few years now, I have been exploring the power of Yoga Nidra, and how it shifts the brain waves into a self hypnotic state of release, as a result of the shift of brain frequency to Theta (awake sleep) state. Bringing calmness, clarity and setting intention for change. This is also achieved through meditation and the Sound Bath is another dimension of allowing yourself to be held in stillness and to be able to let go, whilst the ambient sound, and the power of the crystal bowls, Himalayan bowls, gongs and other instruments, allow you to go deeper into relaxation and shake off those aspects of ourselves that we are patterned to hold onto. Creating a opening for reflection, change and realignment on all levels.

For me to get a deeper understanding of this phenomena I decided to train with College of Healing Sound and realised how powerful vibration is. We live in vibration and oscillation of sound and we know now that in order for life to become a life form those vibrations have to align perfectly or there is dissonance.

In playing the bowls, gongs and other instruments, the space is engulfed in sound, but not a rhythmical sound that the mind can latch onto. The flood of sound gives the mind and the body permission to let go and surrender. Lying on your back in the corpse pose or a position that is comfortable for you as the recipient. You start to feel detached from the body and the world and this allows for the release of spirit, so that we become sound. The Mysterious Tremendum (to disappear into sound).

In our training I also learnt that our auric field is affected by our surroundings. We know that is true with the change of the weather; the change of day light; some people (me in particular suffer from SADS). Something that we know instinctively, but we do not give full acknowledgement to. We know when there is a "negative vibe", someone is off with us. We are picking up the different alterations in pitch, tone, vibrations of atmosphere and pressure. We know when something is off. Sometimes we are carrying around perception of ourselves; negative energy that is almost stuck to our aura. Working with sonic massage and dowsing and letting go of these energies that hold us in a certain space can be the one things that helps us to move on in our life.

I am now on the journey of offering Sound Baths and Journeys. I am also willing to offer these events to Yoga retreats and Corporations who want to offer their staff members a moment to download and find that peace within.

The Sound Bath is a opportunity to let go and be at one.

I am excited to share this experience with you and I hope this invitation to join us for a Sound Bath is taken up by you. This work is beyond words. It needs to be experienced.
